Sara Newton is a force of nature. She has travelled the world and has had a career track that most wouldn’t believe. She is the writer, director, and producer of Big Litter Ocean, a mockumentary that takes a satirical and dry-witted look at the problem of plastic pollution in our oceans. Plastic Oceans International is proud to present this short film that reminds us all to not take ourselves too seriously and to do our best to #begood. The island of Rapa Nui (or Easter Island) has captured the attention of thousands of people through its mysticism, culture and the enigmatic, well-known statues called ‘moai’. However, the passage of time, globalization, and the growing tourist industry on the island, has caused its traditions, language, and culture to be in danger of disappearing. However, for the Rapanui people this is not an option. Different efforts have been made to keep their ancient culture alive, by creating opportunities for reunion and teaching new generations about their roots.
Like many around the world, we were blown away by the beauty and power of the recently release video for the Novo Amor song, Birthplace. The film is a stunning visual achievement and we are honored be collaborating with the filmmakers, Sil van der Woerd and Jorik Dozy, as well as with Novo Amor to use it as a tool for building awareness on plastic pollution.
We are excited to continue our initiative to bring the value of creativity to the forefront, showcasing it as a powerful tool in our efforts to raise awareness on the issue of plastic pollution, to inspire action and to create meaningful change.
